Urban Compass Programs
Urban Compass offers a 4-week summer camp for students to provide continuity and keeps students engaged in academics, enrichment activities, as well as new, eye-opening field trip experiences.
An integral part of the Urban Compass program is taking participants on regular field trips to expose them to the world that exists outside of the confines of their community, and as forms of positive experiences aimed at helping youth cope with exposure to trauma and violence.
Urban Compass partners with high schools and colleges/universities to engage high-achieving students to serve as daily volunteers and inspirational role models. An integral part to our program success!
Welcome to Urban Compass
Urban Compass was established in 2004 to address the bleak outcomes and combat the dismal statistics affecting children and youth in Watts and South Central Los Angeles. Formed in partnership with Verbum Dei High School and 112th Street Elementary School to combat poverty and violence, Urban Compass is still creating a continuum of academic and support services to keep children in school and out of gangs. Urban Compass focuses on 50 students at a time and supports the same families through each of their crucial elementary school years to improve school attendance, family engagement, homework completion, reading and core academic performance, and create a solid foundation for a successful college pathway!
