Meet the team guiding youth toward a hopeful future!
Xochiltl Bravo, MSW- Executive Director
Now entering her third year as Executive Director, Ms. Bravo received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work, where she specialized in Administration and Family and Youth Services. She is also a graduate of Loyola Marymount University where she earned a B.A. in Sociology with an emphasis in Secondary Education. Prior to Urban Compass, Xochiltl served as the Manager of Family and Community Engagement for former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, a non-profit organization focusing on the lowest-performing schools in Boyle Heights, Watts, and South Los Angeles. Ms. Bravo has also worked in New York for the New York City Department of Education as Project Manager for their Gang Prevention and Intervention Unit. Her work required coordinated response efforts to school-based gang activity and crisis situations, working collaboratively with school administration, community organizations, and law enforcement agencies to ensure student safety and follow-up services. She later served as their Brooklyn area Program Manager for Students in Temporary Housing, managing federally funded programs for homeless youth, students living in shelters, unaccompanied, and displaced youth. Additional experience includes work with The Salvation Army of Greater New York on World Trade Center and Hurricane Katrina Recovery and youth-serving agencies such as the American Camp Association, the Gang Alternatives Program, juvenile hall, and serving on advisory boards for community-based organizations like Youth Speak Collective.
Victor Cisneros, Program Manager
A South LA native, Victor earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Human Development from Cal State Long Beach. Before joining the Urban Compass team, Victor worked as a Program Leader for the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach where he supervised student activities, led recreation/sports, facilitated STEM lesson plans, and assisted the Site Director with managing the program site. Victor also worked as a Behavioral Interventionist at the Vista Center, where he worked with children and clients with special needs, utilizing ABA therapy. He continues to learn best practices for supporting youth by taking additional courses in Early Childhood Education at Long Beach City College. Victor loves coffee, photography, and frozen yogurt!
Maddie Pierson, Program Coordinator/Jesuit Volunteer Corps
Maddie comes to Urban Compass as part of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps program. We will be lucky to have her for a year of service. Maddie is a recent graduate of Scripps College in Claremont, CA where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in American Studies with a concentration on Religion in the U.S. Her past work experience includes working for the Center for Faith Justice as a Leaderworx Program Leader in Trenton, New Jersey where she led social justice education and service immersion trips for middle and high school students. Maddie also worked at Fresh Lifelines for Youth, an NGO educating at-risk middle school children on the legal system, and was a Teaching Assistant and P.E. Coach for kids in Portola. She is an avid volunteer and has served locally for Girls on the Run and internationally in Greece, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Mexico. Maddie played in a Mariachi band for 4 years, loves tacos, and is obsessed with ice cream!
Demitra Walker, Program Coordinator
Ms. Walker previously worked with College Bound for Kids, a youth program based on the campus of West LA College, and served as a Site Coordinator for Creative Brain Learning. While at Creative Brain Learning, Demitra managed after-school services for 100 students at Dr. Sammy Lee Magnet Elementary School. She worked collaboratively with school staff, parents, and students to ensure a high-quality program for all. Demitra knows the community well and even attended King Drew Medical Magnet High School. She is now studying to earn her Bachelor’s in Mathematics Education. Demitra loves dancing, poetry, spoken word, and cheesecake!
Molly Baril, Program Coordinator
Molly has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of San Diego and is currently a graduate student at Loyola Marymount University, working on her Master’s in School Counseling. Her passion for working with kids with the greatest needs makes her a great addition to our team. She served as a graduate volunteer at Urban Compass for over a year and has now officially joined the team! Molly’s previous experience includes working as an academic coach for K&M Center, serving as Jesuit Volunteer and teacher with the Mustard Seed School in Sacramento, a private school for homeless children, and volunteering with Schools on Wheels in Los Angeles. She has also volunteered with the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, Carson Elementary School, and led an after-school wellness program for girls at Health Within. Molly loves to rock climb, bake, and cook!
