Meet the team guiding youth toward a hopeful future!

Xochiltl Bravo, MSW- Executive Director

Xochiltl Bravo has proudly served as the Executive Director of Urban Compass since 2013. Xochiltl earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from Columbia University School of Social Work in New York, where she specialized in Administration and Family and Youth Services. She is also a graduate of Loyola Marymount University where she received a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Secondary Education. Prior to Urban Compass, Xochiltl served as the Manager of Community Engagement and Advocacy for former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s Partnership for Los Angeles Schools, a nonprofit organization focusing on the lowest performing schools in Boyle Heights, Watts, and South Los Angeles. Ms. Bravo has also worked in New York for the New York City Department of Education as Program Manager for their Gang Prevention and Intervention Unit. She later served as their Brooklyn Program Manager for Students in Temporary Housing, managing federally-funded programs for homeless youth, students living in shelters, unaccompanied, and displaced youth. Additional experience includes work with The Salvation Army of Greater New York on World Trade Center and Hurricane Katrina Recovery and youth-serving agencies such as the American Camp Association, the Gang Alternatives Program, Brooklyn Patriots Soccer Club, juvenile hall, and serving on advisory boards for community-based organizations like Youth Speak Collective.

Brittany Burnett, M.A., Program Manager (Watts)

Ms. Burnett has over 10 years experience in educational, enrichment, and after-school programs aimed at helping at-risk youth succeed. Brittany earned her Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Loyola Marymount University, and earned her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Cal State University San Bernardino. Although Los Angeles is home, Ms. Burnett comes to us most recently from serving as a Student Support Specialist with Communities in Schools in North Carolina. She has worked with Bright Star Schools Los Angeles as a College Success Counselor and as an After-school Program Leader at THINK Together. Brittany’s also served as Coordinator and Summer Camp Counselor with the AmeriCorps VISTA Program, and as a Driving Instructor for the Auto Club of Southern California. We are lucky to have her join us as the Watts Program Manager!

Demitra Walker, Program Coordinator

Starting her third year with Urban Compass, you can find Demitra at our Watts program location. Ms. Walker previously worked with College Bound for Kids, a youth program based on the campus of West LA College, and served as a Site Coordinator for Creative Brain Learning. While at Creative Brain Learning, Demitra managed after-school services for 100 students at Dr. Sammy Lee Magnet Elementary School. She worked collaboratively with school staff, parents, and students to ensure a high-quality program for all. Demitra knows the community well and even attended King Drew Medical Magnet High School. She is studying to earn her Bachelor’s in Mathematics Education at Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Christian Morales, Program Coordinator

Mr. Christian Morales joins us a Program Coordinator for our Watts location. Christian graduated from Cal State University Northridge with a B.A. in Sociocultural Anthropology. He served as a Research Assistant with the Violence Intervention Program where he was part of a team working to improve the experience for youth in the Los Angeles County Probation system. Christian was also an Education Enrichment Volunteer for Project Access after-school programs in Harbor City, and was a Food Sustainability Intern helping low-income families learn tools for healthier lifestyles with the Meeting Each Need with Dignity organization in Pacoima.

Erin Finnerty, Jesuit Volunteer Corps Member

Ms. Finnerty comes to us from New Jersey by way of Pennsylvania, where she attended the University of Scranton. Erin earned her B.S. in Counseling and Human Services. She also studied at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. In South Africa, Erin also worked at Amy’s Kids Educare and helped with daily child activities and positive reinforcement programs. She is an avid volunteer and has helped with Hurricane Sandy disaster relief, Infant Care program with Covenant House, and Community Intervention Center of Scranton. Erin will be joining our Watts program team!

Victor Cisneros, Program Manager (Pico-Union)

A South Los Angeles native, Victor earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Psychology and Human Development from Cal State University Long Beach. He previously served as our Watts Program Manager in the 2016-17 school year and is now making the move to our new Pico-Union office to help establish our after-school program at St. Thomas the Apostle School! Before joining the Urban Compass team, Victor worked as a Program Leader for the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach where he supervised student activities, led recreation/sports, facilitated STEM lesson plans, and assisted the Site Director with managing the program site. Victor also worked as a Behavioral Interventionist at the Vista Center, where he worked with children and clients with special needs, utilizing ABA therapy. He continues to learn best practices for supporting youth by taking additional courses in Early Childhood Education at Long Beach City College.

Jennifer Alcantara, Program Coordinator

Starting her first year with Urban Compass at our Pico-Union office, Ms. Jennifer Alcantara moved to Los Angeles from Chicago, Illinois where she worked as an ESL Teacher and Coordinator for Horizon Science Academy- Belmont. At Horizon Science Academy, she worked on creating differentiated learning materials and lessons for students ranging from Kindergarten to 8th grade and also coordinated their Saturday School program. Ms. Alcantara also served as a Program Instructor for Youth Guidance and as an Education Intern for the Midwest Museum of Natural History. Jennifer earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education at Northern Illinois University.

Ana Graczyk, Jesuit Volunteer Corps Member

This year, Ms. Graczyk will be joining Urban Compass in Pico-Union as a Jesuit Volunteer. Ana recently graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Arts in Child Studies and Spanish. Ms. Graczyk has immersed herself in several study abroad education and service experiences, including a semester studying in Chile at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado, Santa Clara Ignatian Center immersion programs in Ecuador, Oaxaca, and with ENLACES Communitarios Interacionales in Cholula, Mexico. She also participated in the Service Education Program in Peru, and assisted afterschool programs in Santiago, Chile. Most recently, Ana was a Resilient Families Project Coordinator for Sacred Heart Community Services in San Jose, California, and worked with Camp Kindness Counts and the Kids on Campus Preschool at Santa Clara University.

Molly Baril, Program Associate

Molly is currently a second year graduate student at Loyola Marymount University working on her Master’s in School Counseling, and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of San Diego. Her passion for working with kids with the greatest needs makes her a great addition to our team. She served as a graduate student volunteer at Urban Compass for over a year and officially joined the team last year as a Program Coordinator. Ms. Baril’s previous experience includes working as an academic coach for K&M Center, serving as Jesuit Volunteer and teacher with the Mustard Seed School in Sacramento, a private school for homeless children, and volunteering with Schools on Wheels in Los Angeles. She has also volunteered with the Boys & Girls Club of Venice, Carson Elementary School, and led an after-school wellness program for girls at Health Within.
