After-School

The Urban Compass after-school program started up again in early September. The program is held every Monday through Friday at Verbum Dei High School. This year there are 50 participants in the program. Twelve of the students are returning from last year and fourteen are new (six of the new students are younger siblings of past participants).

We are privileged to have the help of volunteers from local high schools and universities to assist in operation of the after-school program. Our volunteers help tutor the students in the after-school program and also serve as mentors.

Schedule of After-School Program

2:30-3:15  Outdoor games
3:15-3:30  Snack
3:30-4:15  Homework
4:15-5:00  Activities and art projects at stations

We follow the above schedule each day in order to maintain a structured program. When the students are finished with their homework, they are free to rotate between the stations. The stations include activities involving math, reading, arts and crafts, and games.
